What to Do Right After a Sports Injury (So You Don’t Make It Worse)

Whether you tweaked your back during a deadlift or rolled your ankle mid-game, what you do in the first 48 hours after a sports injury can make all the difference.

❌ What NOT to Do:

  • Don’t push through pain thinking it’ll “just go away”

  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatories too soon—they can slow healing

  • Skip stretching or massaging the area (this can make it worse)

✅ What TO Do Instead:

  • Protect the area with rest or light support

  • Ice if swollen, but avoid heat early on

  • Move gently—don’t fully immobilize unless told otherwise

  • Track your symptoms—write down what hurts and when

At Matador Rehab & Performance, we specialize in identifying the root cause of sports injuries and helping you heal without unnecessary downtime. We blend chiropractic care, rehabilitative therapy, and strength training to get you moving again—safely and confidently.

🧠 When Should You Get Checked Out?

If you have:

  • Lingering pain beyond 3 days

  • Sharp, shooting pain

  • Swelling or instability

  • A history of recurring injuries

…it’s time to see a pro.
